How Windsurf Usage Limits Work
Windsurf moved current self-serve plans from prompt credits to quota-based usage in March 2026. Each plan includes a daily allowance and a weekly allowance. Both must have capacity for a request to proceed, and each refreshes on its own schedule.
Usage is based on the tokens processed by the selected model. Short prompts with focused context consume less than long agent runs over a large repository, and free models do not count against the quota.

Open Windsurf Settings → Plan Info from the status bar, or sign in to the plan page on the Windsurf website. Review both daily and weekly remaining usage before a long Cascade or agent task.

What Happens When Windsurf Quota Runs Out?
Free users wait for the relevant daily or weekly reset. Eligible paid plans can enable extra usage, which is metered after included quota is exhausted. Confirm the rate and any budget control on the plan page before enabling overage.
Some legacy enterprise accounts still use credits, while newer enterprise agreements can use Agent Compute Units. The account dashboard—not an old plan comparison—is the source of truth for the billing system attached to your workspace.
Windsurf Rate-Limit Troubleshooting
A premium-model capacity error is not always the same as exhausting personal quota. If Plan Info shows capacity remaining, wait briefly and retry. If the error continues, check the selected model, daily quota, weekly quota, extra-usage setting, account status, and Windsurf service status.
