Privacy Policy

This policy explains what AI Usage Bar does with your information. It covers two things separately: the macOS app and the aiusagebar.com website. They are very different — the app is designed to collect nothing, while the website uses standard analytics and a payment processor.
The macOS app
The app does not collect any data about you. There is no AI Usage Bar account, no AI Usage Bar server, and no analytics, tracking, or crash-reporting code in the app. Nothing you do in the app is sent to us.
Provider credentials. To show your usage, the app needs a credential for each AI or LLM provider you connect — an API key, an OAuth token, or a session token, depending on the provider. These are stored only in your Mac's system Keychain on your own device. They are never transmitted to us.
Provider requests. When the app refreshes, it calls each connected provider's official API directly over HTTPS, using the credential you supplied, and reads back your usage numbers, limits, and reset times. That traffic goes only between your Mac and that provider. Your use of each provider is also governed by that provider's own privacy policy.
Local files. Some providers (for example the OpenAI Codex CLI or JetBrains AI) can be read from an existing configuration file on your Mac instead of a pasted credential. On the Mac App Store build the app is sandboxed and asks your permission, via a standard system dialog, before reading a specific folder. It only reads the usage or credential file it needs, and the contents stay on your device.
Purchases (Mac App Store build). The one-time “Unlock All Providers” purchase is handled entirely by Apple's In-App Purchase system. We never see your payment details. The app only checks Apple's on-device record of whether you own the purchase.
Notifications. Rate-limit alerts are generated locally on your Mac. No push service and no notification tokens are involved.
The direct-download build
The version downloaded from this website unlocks the paid tier with a license key from our payment processor, Lemon Squeezy, instead of Apple In-App Purchase. When you activate a license, the app sends the license key and your device name to Lemon Squeezy to validate it and returns the email address associated with the purchase, which is stored in your Keychain. See the website section below for how the purchase itself is handled. The Mac App Store build does not include this and never contacts Lemon Squeezy.
The website (aiusagebar.com)
The website is a normal marketing site and uses common third-party services. Through these, limited information such as your IP address, browser and device details, pages viewed, and referring links may be collected:
- • Vercel Analytics and PostHog — aggregate traffic and product analytics.
- • Google Tag Manager / Google Ads and the X (Twitter) pixel — measuring the performance of ads.
- • Lemon Squeezy — our payment processor (Merchant of Record). If you buy a license, Lemon Squeezy collects your email and payment information to process the sale and send your license key and receipt. Card details are handled by Lemon Squeezy and its processors, not by us.
These services set cookies or similar identifiers. You can block them with your browser settings or an ad/tracking blocker without affecting the app.
Data we sell or share
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it except with the service providers named above, acting on our behalf.
Your choices
In the app, removing a provider deletes its credential from your Keychain. On the website, use your browser or a tracking blocker to opt out of analytics and advertising cookies. For any request about information held by Lemon Squeezy, or any other privacy question, email us and we will help.
Children
AI Usage Bar is a developer tool and is not directed to children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be noted on the website.
